Grandparent's Day: Information was sent home earlier this week on our upcoming Grandparent's Day. Please join us on Wednesday, April 23 beginning at 8:30 a.m. for Mass at St. Hubert Chapel. After Mass, enjoy some light refreshments in our gym before going to the classrooms and Book Fair.

End Of The Year Picnic: Our annual School Picnic is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10. We will need volunteers in the kitchen and adults for grilling. We also will need to borrow some grills - either gas or charcoal. Please contact Lanae Weyer to offer your assistance in the kitchen, to help with grilling or to bring your grill. Thank you!!

Track Sign-Up Is Still Open: Although the track season starts already with our first practice on April 5, it's not too late to sign up. Track is open to all boys and girls in 5th-8th Grade. Our practices will be held on Monday's and Wednesday's from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday's from 8:00 - 9:30 a.m. All practices will be held at Germantown High School track this year. Athletes are asked to participate in any two of the three practice times.

A sign-up sheet is included with the Gazette or call Mark Scaduto at 628-9024 or 414-659-5892 for more details.

Franciscan Peace Maker Lunches: Information was sent home today on the items each class is asked to donate for the Peace Maker lunches. All items must be at school by 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16. Thank you!

From The Principal's Office:

Dear Parents:

Happy Spring!! Finally we see signs of nice weather. As usual, St. Gabriel School is bustling with activity. I would like to list some of the key happenings and reminders.

1. Congratulations to Sarah Nasgowitz for winning a very competitive art
contest at Pius High School. Sarah won a $500 scholarship.

2. Our 8th Graders did an outstanding job on the State WKCE tests. 90% of
our students scored in the Advanced and Proficient categories. This is
significant because our 8th Graders were compared to all the Public School
8th Graders in the State.

3. Our 3rd, 5th and 7th Graders IOWA tests have arrived. You will receive
the results with your child's report card. We just received them so I
haven't had a chance to do an analysis but at first glance, they also look
good!

4. Please be thinking of nominations for School Committee. There are three
seats open. This committee meets once a month to deal specifically with
school issues. This committee is very active and quite effective in giving
good advice and planning for the future. Please watch for more information
which will be sent to you through the Gazette. This year we are planning
on asking you to vote on-line. Actually, we are working hard to make our
website a place to go for school closings, up-to-date information and
information about help needed to obtain SRO hours. This is an exciting
time and we want to make sure that you have easy access to school
information.

5. The School Committee voted to require all students to purchase "uniform
pants" for the 2008-2009 school year. Our easing into Mass wear has been
a success and we are very pleased with the results. There have been many
nice comments. The one concern is that we have some "creative" tan pants
issues. The students who have the uniform pants stand out and they have the
look that we are looking for. We will give you more information in the
next couple weeks about where you can purchase the tan, blue or black
pants. Thank you to all of our St. Gabriel families for helping us ease into
this change. You are appreciated.

6. It is getting close to the end of the year. I have been asked by the Finance
Department to urge parents to get tuition payments up to date so books can
be closed. If there is a problem, please contact me.

7. The Finance Department has offered to help set up ACH payments and
credit card payments to make tuition payments more convenient to
parents. Please contact Kelly Lemens at 628-1141 if you are interested.
