School Committee Nominations Being Accepted: March is the month the St. Gabriel School Committee (our School Board) seeks nominations of individuals to fill three positions on our nine person board. All board positions are for a three-year term. We meet one night a month during the school year, historically it's been the 1st Monday evening of the month. If you are interested in filling one of these positions or know someone who would be an asset to our School Committee, please submit your nomination by March 21. All nominated individuals will be contacted to accept their nomination before being put on the ballot for the April election. Thank you for considering joining this very important committee. Should you have any questions or need more details, please feel free to contact any of our School Committee members: Dan Sheehan, Gina Bandholz, Lisa Casper, Jeff Kjorlien, Ted Meyer, Kathy Palmersheim, Cathyy Piotrowski, Jen Thuemmler or Tony Weyer.

Bunco: Attention Ladies! Our next Bunco is scheduled for Friday, March 26 starting at 7:00 p.m. If you have never played before and think you might like to try it, feel free to come and check it out. There will be a quick review before we start. Please see the flier in the Gazette for all the details. If you have any questions or to reserve your spot, please contact Vicki Littel at 262-502-0865 or vlittel@wi.rr.com. Hope you can make it!

Registrations: Forms for the 2010-2011 school year were sent home earlier. Please fill these out and return to the School Office by March 19. We are going to start ordering supplies/textbooks for the 2010-2011 school year and need to know the number of students per grade. If your child will not be returning, please indicate that also on the Registration Form and return it. Thank you.

$crip: Just a reminder that you have until April 30 to reach your $250 profit level ($125 for families with a child in only K4) to receive your tuition credit. The $crip calendar year runs from May 1 through April 30. Also, please plan ahead for your Easter shopping. We'll place our last order before Easter on March 22 and then our next order will be placed on April 12. We will continue to sell $crip from our in-stock inventory while our supply lasts.

News From Dr. Mortell:

Dear Parents:

We have just completed administering our Spring Iowa Tests of Basic Skills. All of the 3rd, 5th and 7th graders in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee are required to take these diagnostic tests. We will receive the results in May. The results are presented to us through an on-line resource from the testing company. The Interactive Results Manager is a dynamic, web-based reporting application that provides administrators and teachers a useful solution for analyzing group performance.

The Interactive Results Manager allows teachers and administrators to:

- analyze results from The Iowa Tests, CogAT and GMRT to inform

instruction and ensure that students are making progress in academic

achievement.

- disaggregate data by race/ethnicity, special program involvement and gender

to effectively monitor the progress of mandated reporting groups.

- investigate student performance in comprehensive content areas or in each test

within a content area - providing flexibility with the level of achievement

analysis desired.

- examine group achievement data using an advanced analysis tool included with

the application providing an unsurpassed level of reporting flexibility.

- control report access at three different levels - class, building and system.

- export group level data in a variety of formats so that data may be used in other

applications.

- interpret results from The Iowa Tests and CogAT using on-line links through

detailed, explanatory information.

These test results drive our discussions on curriculum and are very useful to us as we plan for group instruction and individual differences. Each family will receive an individual report on their child.

Our 8th Grade students took the WKCE (Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam) last October. Our 8th Graders were compared with thousands of Public and Private 8th Graders in the state. Our students scored in the Proficient and Advanced category in all subject areas!!

Our teachers attended a three hour in-service last Tuesday evening. An exceptional instructor from CESA 6 presented teaching strategies and web sites for teaching a wide variety of student needs.

Finally, St. Gabriel will host an in-service on "First in Math" for 14 District 6 principals. A presenter is flying in from Pennsylvania to speak to school leaders. We are happy with "First in Math" and we are interested in sharing with other schools.

Whew! Lots of activity here at St. Gabriel School. Congratulations to our award winning Forensics team.

I hope to see you at our Dinner Auction this weekend.
