School Committee Nominations Being Accepted: March is the month the St. Gabriel School Committee (our School Board) seeks nominations of individuals to fill three positions on our nine person board. All board positions are for a three-year term. We meet one night a month during the school year, historically it's been the 1st Monday evening of the month. If you are interested in filling one of these positions or know someone who would be an asset to our School Committee, please submit your nomination by March 21. All nominated individuals will be contacted to accept their nomination before being put on the ballot for the April election. Thank you for considering joining this very important committee. Should you have any questions or need more details, please feel free to contact any of our School Committee members: Dan Sheehan, Gina Bandholz, Lisa Casper, Jeff Kjorlien, Ted Meyer, Kathy Palmersheim, Cathyy Piotrowski, Jen Thuemmler or Tony Weyer.
"A Fabulous Fifties Affair" Dinner Auction: The deadline to reserve your spot at our annual auction has been extended until March 9. Please call Terry Brehm at 628-3211 for more information.
We are in the final planning stages for next weekend's Dinner Auction to be held on Saturday, March 13. We are still in need of a few more volunteers. Specifically, we need the following:
- 8 volunteers to work the second shift from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
- 8 volunteers to work the last shift from 7:00 - 10:30ish.
- 2-4 "on-call" volunteers. (These are people who are attending the Auction
who are willing to help during the event if needed.)
If you are able to help fill any of these roles, we'd greatly appreciate your time commitment. If you can help, just contact Julie Malucha at 628-4204 or at malucha6@yahoo.com. Many thanks to those who have already offered to help. We are grateful for your tremendous support.
Home and School: Home and School needs three additional volunteers to help with our Pizza Lunch from 10:45 until noon on Friday, March 12. If you are able to help, please contact Annette DeMeuse at 966-0845. Helping with this lunch will qualify for SRO hours.
News From Dr. Mortell:
Dear Parents:
As we enter this busy time of the year, it is important to note and reflect on our accomplishments. I will name a few:
1. The 8th Grade Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam was given in
October. We just received the results and our entire 8th Grade class scored
in the Proficient and Advanced categories in Reading, Math, Social Studies,
Science and Language Arts. Hats off to students, parents and teachers for
a job well done.
2. Our Forensics team continues to wow southeastern Wisconsin. Every week
the students come home with blue ribbons, trophies and medals. (Last
week it looked like the Olympics came to St. Gabriel.)
3. Four of our 7th Grade girls will be attending the Academic Decathlon at
Divine Savior this Spring.
4. Our athletic teams continue to be highly competitive bringing home
trophies and compliments of good sportsmanship especially 5-8 Grade
volleyball and basketball.
5. Our St. Gabriel Big Buddy idea is hugely popular and quite a tradition at
St. Gabriel.
6. St. Gabriel's "First in Math" program is so highly successful that principals
from District 6 will be visiting on March 16 to observe our school in action.
These are just a few of the events that have kept us busy. Of course, the Auction on
March 13 is our biggest fund raiser for the school and final preparations are being made. If you haven't made other plans, our Auction would be the place to be!!
